“Interstellar Baby” by Plasma Chasms

Los Angeles-based psychedelic rock duo Plasma Chasms has truly let their fans’ love for their project propel them to new heights since forming as a project a few short years ago. With several high-profile shows and festivals already under their belt, they step into the next frontier of their musical journey with the release of their Sophomore EP “Interstellar Baby” which more than lives up to the artists’ promise to take listeners “aboard a cosmic elevator.” Headlining the record is the titular track, an all-around feel-good anthem that reminds us to enjoy our time on this earth and not be afraid to live with reckless abandon when faced with an opportunity to let loose.

As percussive cymbals crash alongside a series of string instruments, we are immediately taken down a rabbit hole with the artists as the narrative begins with the opening line “You are my interstellar baby, and I’m yours too. This feelings got me crazy ‘cus I love you. I do.” It is easy to form a sense of connection with the artists as they deliver this message alongside their long flowing basslines and mesmerizing falsetto that paint a vivid imagery of a carefree summer day.

The single drips with elements of the soul of the soul jazz renaissance that underscored and categorized much of the 70s but with an updated and modern twist that brings this flavor into the modern era. Familiar and comfortable yet innovative and enthralling, it prompts feelings of euphoria from the listener in a way that has gone underutilized by the mainstream for far too long.
