“Live in My Hometown” by Tara MacLean

Enter the vulnerable, passionate world of award-winning artist Tara MacLean’s newest project. The Canadian based artist is celebrating the works of her career by releasing a live album “Live in My Hometown.” The record was recorded in front of a hometown audience at the prestigious Confederation Centre of the Arts in Prince Edward Island. MacLean includes a live version on some songs from her latest studio album Sparrow. That project went on to win album and video of the year at the PEI music awards. The singer became a bestseller author when she wrote her memoir “Song of The Sparrow” as a part of her Sparrow project.

The first track is “Beneath The Path of Crows” from Deeper (2019.) The live version of the song allows the listener to really feel the emotion and rage MacLean channels. She trades in the pop sound for a rawer singer/songwriter sound – allow her message to take center stage. She shared the inspiration for the song was to act as a tribute to Canada’s First Nations peoples, more specifically the Mi’Kmaq. In the breakdown of the song MacLean speaks, “These are the words of Senator Brian Francis, he said ‘we can move forward together in harmony. If you acknowledge what you’ve done. We can build a new relationship of trust, but one cannot move without the other. We need each other to forgive.’”

The closing track, “This Storm,” originally from This Storm EP (2020), was released as a joint project of Tara MacLean and Catherine MacLellan. The live project includes both singers along with the inclusion of Alicia Toner. The three have harmonies that melt together, their chemistry on this track is undeniable. The strings of the violin and the guitar paint this lullaby like environment and all three voices soothe the listener when it comes to the impending doom, ensuring them it will all be okay.

Overall, Tara MacLean proves she’s a real singer songwriter. Writing music and lyrics that really connect to the world around her, and truly make a difference. The live versions allow the listener to hear her unfiltered love for what she does, and it is inspiring.
