“Lights” is one of those songs that makes you feel all the feels. Within the first verse, you’ll find yourself understanding the meaning of this song in a deeper, more profound way. The phrase, “I Write these songs to make you proud”, is the first moment that really captured me. I knew instantly this song was going to be filled with emotion and relevance.
Occupation Baby’s sound is a mix of indie-rock and electronica. He does a great job at incorporating a fresh sound to his instrumental arrangements and choosing risky moments within his beat work. However, the risk pays off and really transcends his sound into something that feels meaningful and full of heart.
“Lights” is a song about loneliness and capturing the confusing feelings that follow that hollow feeling of despair. Occupation Baby’s vulnerability is what makes this song such a hit. I loved the way he created a space of honesty for the listeners.
Occupation Baby really puts his heart and soul into this song and it translates well to his audience this way too. I thought this song had so many moments of pureness while still leaving some moments for mystery within the music arrangements.
