Just in time for the holidays, Bristol-based indie rock outfit Chandra caps off their remarkable year of spreading joy and positivity through their music with their newest and festive single “Christmas Hugs.” The embodiment of positivity and peace any month of the year, their inner light shines through like a star atop a tree while spreading Yuletide cheer in this very merry record.
A chorus of sleigh bells chimes in rhythm to begin the piece as we are immediately put in the spirit of the season from the opening seconds. An electric guitar enters soon after in a more traditional rock-style chord progression as it shifts the tone in a more familiar direction while the music begins to take shape.
We feel the intention of the lyrics from the opening line “It’s the time of the year when everything’s all of a glow. I just can’t wait to go home and get my Christmas on.” Delivered through the band’s signature elating inflection and sharp conveyance, we feel permission to get into the Christmas spirit a little bit early with their words.
While the piece has all the hallmarks of a new-aged holiday song, it retains the identity fans have come to love from Chandra’s loving spirit and magnified this all in spades. A reminder of the sentimental nature of this time of the year, yet upbeat and danceable, the song takes on a meaning that reflects the artists’ intentions in every way, or as they would put it “Let’s rock and be grateful, so come on all ye faithful.”
