A fuzzy droning sound, tapping drums, and ominous strings open “Nobody Knows,” setting the scene for the tense and emotional story that is to follow. Three and Me have an eclectic and fresh sound, mixing elements of folk, jazz, and rock to create something that departs from the lines of genre to tell the most impactful story possible. Hauntingly beautiful vocals are softly delivered, making the listener lean in closer and closer as to not miss a word.
“Nobody Knows” is a vulnerable track about loneliness and longing. The lyrics are poetic and metaphorical, with lines like “do we let the dark flood in while the daylight is no more” provoking a melancholic and almost indefinable emotion in the listener. The title of the song comes from the lyric “I know nobody and nobody knows me,” a simple, yet incredibly impactful description of what it means to be lonely. Even if you are physically around other people, there is loneliness in feeling unknown- in lacking any kind of connection with those other people.
Gorgeous violin, ambient piano, and lilting melodies create an immersive soundscape for the listener to sink into. It is a transportive experience, with the drums and strings building during the pre chorus to lead you into the passionate chorus. Though this track grapples with difficult emotions, there is some solace in its relatability, and the knowledge that loneliness is so common. Even the lyric “anybody can be a nobody like me” is a nod to the fact that we are probably not alone in our loneliness.
