“Get There Before Noon (LA Mix)” is an experimental indie rock track by The Afro Nick, a band fronted by Greek musician Nick Anastasakis. Anastasakis draws on his background and life experiences to create this determined song about seizing the moment and making the most of the present. Pulsing electronic production, combined with contemporary drum rhythms and high energy guitars, make this song an invigorating and unique listening experience.
Whether it be a busy work schedule, difficult relationships, or crippling self-doubt, it can be hard to take advantage of everything life has to offer. You get caught up in comfort and feel stable in settling, because pushing yourself feels scary. The Afro Nick uses this song to remind people that living your life to its fullest potential is more important than your comfort, though. Lines like “I got to live this life, not yesterday” bring you to the present and encourage you to stop reliving your mistakes, or obsessing over potential future mistakes. It’s true that “all you have to do is say ‘I am me,’” and acceptance over your past, present, and future will come much more easily.
Heavy guitar riffs let you sit in these perspectives and really take them in. The unique production choices, such as a high pitched, whining synth behind lyrics about going insane, make this song fun as well as inspirational. The music video for “Get There Before Noon” shows people with chains around their wrists gradually breaking out of them, and hopefully the captivating groove of this track helps the listener do the same.
