“It’s You” by Thomas And The Angry Hearts is a moving folk rock song about communal ties and how relationships influence your success and satisfaction in life. “It’s You” is the title track off of this bands self-titled album, which is full of riveting rhythms and poignant narratives. The Norway based band showcases their immense talent and clear artistic vision through every track on the album, but the standout instrumentation and particularly impactful message of “It’s You” is a highlight on the album, making it clear why the entire body of work is named for this song.
Shimmering guitars, a building rhythm, and impassioned vocal performances paint a landscape full of love and hope. Sparse moments in the arrangement allow for the emotional and vulnerable lyrics at the beginning of the song, which opens with the line “I know that one day it’s gonna happen, it will be me,” referencing a longing for love. Watching other people get what you want can leave you dejected, but there’s some bittersweet hope here that one day, it just has to happen to you too. The male and female narrators both sing these lines, then come together in the chorus to show that they have finally found what they were looking for, singing “it’s you I’m searching for” in tandem.
The building bridge and repetition of “it’s you” drives home the emotional awe that these narrators are experiencing at finally having found their person. Though the track elicits feelings of romantic love, the themes are very applicable to anyone who has changed your life for the better. Realizing the impact others have had on you, and knowing that you would not be the person you are without them, is a magical feeling that leaves you with joy and gratitude, just like the song itself.
