Hailing from the soulful musical gem of the South, Memphis-based trio KARMA has emerged from the studio with the release of their newest EP. “SIS (She’s Something.) The latest in a long string of highly celebrated releases from the group over the last few short years, fans could not be more elated with the consistency and commitment these artists have shown with their work. Headlined by the titular single off the record, the track provides incredible insight into the crux of the project’s musical construction as well as sentimental motivations behind their lyrical writing.
The piece begins with a deep and resonant percussive beat that introduces a synth wave of instrumentality to set the mood. The vocalists then immediately enter to demonstrate their vocal prowess with a series of harmonized lines and the direction of the music is quickly defined. The narrative begins soon after and we are thrown into the world of the story with the opening line “I hope you don’t think that game is strong, you really steppin’ to me all wrong. Come correct, can’t you see I’m grown. Went and bossed up and I did it on my own.”
The single shines as an example of self valuation and empowerment through the lyrics that read as confidently as the voices projecting them. A reminder that there are no obstacles that are truly insurmountable, we feel a sense of pride in our own sense of self through this music and a determination to live our lives with a little more agency.
