Q: “Don’t Make Me Laugh” is a high energy, attitude-filled song. What was the inspiration behind this track?
CHAYNE: I work very closely with my producer and he was talking about how insincere even your closest friends can be in the music industry. It rang a bell with me because, in everyday life, that same insincerity is everywhere! It’s a bit sad to be so cynical at 17, right?? Ha ha!! Oh well….
Q: Was there anything unique about your creative process in making this song?
CHAYNE: No, same old methods…the songs are all pretty simple, so the important thing is to have strong melodies and hooks which work even just on acoustic guitar. I think that If a song has those elements, you can serve it up anyway and it will work. So we recorded it in the same sweaty little studio we always use, then I backed off a bit to let the final production bits happen. Ta-da!! Like magic…hahahaha!
Q: Who would you most like to collaborate with, if it could be anyone in the world?
CHAYNE: Erm….at risk of sounding really horrible, there is literally no one around today that I’m aware of that I would like to work with!! Charli XCX might be a laugh? Billie? Bit weird. Taylor?? NO!! Kendrick?? NO! NO! NO! Drake?? …sorry.
At a push, I’d let Elvis and Marc Bolan in the studio. But they’d better behave themselves or they’ll be straight out the door again…
Q: In your own words, how would you describe the music that you typically create?
CHAYNE: It’s definitely POP, because I love a melody and a hook and a chorus. It’s definitely got a DARK edge to it, like all the good stuff does. It’s a bit GLAM sounding at times. And it has a bit of PUNK energy…so put it all together and you get: DARK-GLAM PUNK-POP!!!
Q: What projects are currently in the works?
CHAYNE: We have 12 songs that need finishing to complete the album that will be out in autumn. Before that we’ll release one or two more singles. But I’m also at school, so I don’t have a huge amount of time; we work when we can, which makes it a little slow. But that’s fine, I’m in no hurry. No point being offered a world tour with Tove Lo when you have to turn it down to do some exam revision….!
Q: Any parting words to your fans?
CHAYNE: Yeah…we invented a collective term for them: they are all part of the Chayne Gang!! Cute, eh?? It’s a very small but elite group, and if you’re in, you’re IN!!!! So a big shout out to the Chayne Gang….hahaha!! xxx
