“Road To Ruin” by Without My Addiction is a high energy, alternative rock album with one of a kind arrangements that you can’t turn away from. Without My Addiction is a five-piece band that crafts hard rock soundscapes infused with folk and contemporary styles, making their album a unique and satisfying listening experience from start to finish. These nine tracks take you through compelling narratives and riveting instrumentation, cementing Without My Addiction as a band that belongs on your playlists.
The album opens with the intense track “In The Name Of Progress.” Grungy guitars chug as a warbling electric dances across the track. The song explores the kinds of people with a cynical and negative attitude who never seem to realize the damage they are doing to the people around them, as well as to themselves. If you prioritize your own needs over your relationships, you’re going to end up being “left by all your friends.” Without My Addiction calls out this brand of person, singing “you’ve got a selfish outlook, don’t care for who you hurt” overtop the rage-filled instrumentation.
Another standout track on the album is the closing song, “Already Broken.” Thrumming bass and deep guitars build the backbone of the track while this tense, desperate song follows the narrator as he struggles with his mental health and a toxic relationship. He sings that this other person has control over him, and cries “let me go.” Then, he belts “save me from myself,” emotionally expressing his own role in his misery.
