“Shirts and Skins“ by Forgottensong

“Shirts And Skins” by Forgottensong is a captivating indie pop track that draws on a soft atmosphere with rock instrumentation to craft its soundscape. Forgottensong is a talented musician from Spain with an aptitude for creating compelling, thoughtful narratives. His lyrics are a standout element of his work, offering stories that are thought-provoking and poetic, allowing the listener to form their own interpretations depending on what speaks most to them.

The track opens with clapping percussion and a marching rhythm, helped along by grungy guitars. Acoustic instrumentation blends perfectly with the heavier rock elements, and electric guitar riffs provide slight shifts in energy from section to section that are immensely satisfying. Some moments in the arrangement are sparse and intimate, while others are dense and energetic, making for an emotional journey that pulls you through its ambience. 

“Shirts And Skins” explores a lovers quarrel- one that seems to have happened time and time again. The line “it’s an old wicked game we play, two lovers lost and gone astray” opens the song, and perfectly represents the exhausting feeling of fighting with someone you love. Even though the pair cares for each other, Forgottensong sings “I’m a fool that’s gotta fight,” almost as if the arguing is inevitable. It feels like this relationship has reached the point of no return, and this sentiment is unfortunately relatable to a lot of us. Despite this, we tend to hold on to things that used to be good in the hopes that they will be again, leading us to continue “keepin’ score and countin’ sins.”
