“Telekinetic“ by Twice Dark

“Telekinetic” by Twice Dark is a transportive, one of a kind album filled with unique sonic textures and thought-provoking themes. Twice Dark is an innovative artist that blends a synth pop framework with rock and punk styles, providing dark, riveting sonic landscapes that you just can’t turn away from. With haunting arrangements and unpredictable rhythms, the seven tracks on this body of work will have you dancing, singing, and feeling a bit like you’ve entered an alternate reality.

“Telekinetic” opens with the spooky track “Night Shifts.” Ominous synth bells begin the song as the layered vocals start to sing melodies that march across the song. Plucking electronic textures and ambient synth sounds grab the listener in their grasp, painting a scene that feels like a haunted mansion with fantastical creatures. Twice Dark sings “night shifts, then slips away,” adding to the anticipatory nature of the track. 

Another standout on the album is the title track, which closes the album in the perfect way. Thrumming bass and steady drums make it feel like you’re on the run, which is just what Twice Dark sings about. He says that he was “born into this life alone” and is ready to get away and find a life he is happy with. The line “in the darkness of the night, dreams are breaking down, in the stillness of the hour, we start to understand” seems to reference the power of night in a similar way to “Night Shifts,” making for a cool callback to the beginning of the album.
