Q: “Telekinetic” is an eclectic and experimental album. Walk us through the creative process of making this body of work.
TWICE DARK: I was very inspired by late 80s and early 90s synth pop for this album. Bands like Cetu Javu, Cause & Effect, Celebrate the Nun, etc. I still kept gothic influences but I wanted the music and beats to be more synth pop than goth this time. Also, this is mostly a concept album. 5 out of the 7 songs are about supernatural abilities as metaphor for human emotions and experiences. Telekinetic is about having the courage to change your life when it’s most important, Invisible Man is about feeling that life is ephemeral, etc. With these ideas in mind, I started writing the album in October 2024, wrapped up in the studio in April 2025 and set about promoting each single and remix as they came out. It was a long process, but rewarding.
Q: Did any real-life events occur in your life that inspired the album?
TWICE DARK: Yes, many everyday small experiences and feelings led to the writing of this album. There’s no real story to tell that sums up the songs other than describing my feelings around the fear of death, the desire to embrace life, feelings of spinning my wheels, and feeling unseen. Mind Trap is about feelings of being smothered by manipulative people in my life. Phoenix is about the destructive nature of addiction which I’ve struggled with in my life. There are many themes with different life event inspirations.
Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?
TWICE DARK: Yes, I was 14 and in High School in 1992 and I convinced some of my friends who I played Dungeons & Dragons with to start a band. I learned guitar and those particular friends didn’t follow through with anything. I found other like minded people along the way to play various genres of music with. Music writing has been in my life for as long as I can remember.
Q: Do you have a personal favorite on the album?
TWICE DARK: It’s hard to say because I think there are few very strong songs on the album. The top 3 would be Invisible Man, Time Traveler and Telekinetic. I suppose the best song in my mind is probably Telekinetic.
Q: In your own words, how would you describe the music that you typically create?
TWICE DARK: I create goth tinged synth pop with hints of electro industrial. I write about life, death and change as well as feelings of impermanence, loneliness, and acceptance.
Q: What projects are currently in the works?
TWICE DARK: I’ve written 5 new songs that will probably work their way onto an EP in 2026. I just finished up a 10 show tour in March. With any luck I’ll get to collaborate with some more amazing musicians as I bring this next EP to fruition. More life to come.
