“Dios A Ella” by Inez Leon is a poignant acoustic rock song that blends compelling production with impactful lyricism, effortlessly crafting a sonic journey that you truly can’t find anywhere else. Leon is a Mexican Korean artist with many talents, and she blends her aptitude for production, singing, guitar playing, and writing in this track. Leon wrote “Dios A Ella” from the perspective of God, which is a unique narrative on its own. God, in this track, is apologizing to a woman who was a victim of femicide. Dedicated to a friend who lost someone to violence like this, Leon handles this complex and painful topic with care and grace.
A heavy snare drum opens this song with a swaying rhythm before the arrangement moves solely to acoustic guitar and the intimate vocal. Tightly layered vocals pull you into the track even more as the ambience swirls around you. Percussion slowly joins in as the hypnotic melodies build emotion. When the kick and snare come back in, Leon switches to non-lyrical melodies, providing a section that allows the previous lyrics to really sink in.
The sparse yet impactful instrumentation in “Dios A Ella” hits hard, and compliments the story beautifully. Much of the song shows God saying sorry, and this admittance of failure from such an all-powerful and all-knowing figure drives home just how destructive and senseless femicide is. This story hurts to hear, but is important to talk about, and Leon does not shy away from exploring the devastation that violence like this can cause.
