“Watershed” by Drew Thomas is an indie pop EP that draws on rock and alternative genres to craft something unique and fresh. Thomas is a multifaceted artist based in London, England that effortlessly delivers compelling narratives and invigorating production. With this six-track EP, he explores many facets of human emotion, especially when it comes to romantic relationships. His raw and honest lyrics sing beautifully overtop eclectic yet cohesive sonic landscapes.
This EP opens with the track “Girls Like Girls,” a rock anthem that preaches acceptance. In a world full of different sexualities and identities, there is still so much hate for people who are perceived as too different. Thomas sings “sometimes girls like girls, it shouldn’t matter in a perfect world,” hoping to help normalize all kinds of love. A thumping kick drum and rhythmic electric guitar strums build tension that lead up to the soaring chorus filled with grungy guitars and catchy vocal melodies.
Another standout on the album is the single “Gemini,” a rock n roll track that will have you jumping to your feet. Unrelenting drums, unique sonic textures, and melodic vocal lines in the chorus are constantly pulling at your ear, making for a fun and energetic sonic journey. Thomas sings about catching his partner with someone else, but still wanting to go back to them after a while. It’s an attitude-filled, relatable track about being inexplicably drawn to someone that you know will probably hurt you again, but wanting them so much that you don’t quite care.
