Staple of the Bay Area indie soul scene, San Francisco-based multidisciplinary artist and composer ZOOLOOK has spent the entirety of their career forging their own path with their unique style of music. A blend of the greatest parts of soul, funk, and jazz, their genre-defying composition fosters senses of elation with every listen, and invites a feeling of collaboration with the listener through a rhythm so danceable, one feels a part of the music simply by dancing to the beat. As they seek to add to their already impressive repertoire, the artist celebrates the release of their latest single “Power of the People.” A robustly full-bodied track, it creates a feeling of nostalgic elation with every verse through its thematic rhythm and bass-driven flow.
The track opens with a sharp electric guitar cord shooting adrenaline into the music, followed by a series of steady and rhythmic percussive and bass parts, defining the direction of the music. As the tone grows in intensity, the various instruments in this symphony of musical symbiosis come together, each introducing themselves with illustrious flair. After establishing a clear musical identity, the track’s vocals appear in a high flowing fashion to embellish the emotions of the piece, before creating narrative cohesion with the line “We can make it work. Tell me, can you see yourself with me?”
An incredible example of the artist’s musical proclivities, the single draws inspiration from the soul-motivated musical movements of the 60s-80s, while creating an identity uniquely its own. Disarming, yet pensive and inspirational, the track serves as a stark reminder of the power music has to impact our very souls.
