Q: To kick things off, how would you describe your signature sound and artistic identity to a listener discovering your music for the first time?
EMILY GRACE: I’d describe my sound as dance-pop with the nostalgic energy of the 2016 Los Angeles pop scene. I love creating music that’s emotionally honest but still makes people want to dance. My goal is to blend uplifting melodies, catchy hooks and drops with real-life stories that listeners can connect with.
Q: What first sparked your passion for making music, and how has your creative process evolved leading up to this point?
EMILY GRACE: Music has fed my soul for as long as I can remember. It’s helped me through some of the most challenging moments in my life and has always been a place where I can express myself. Growing up with a dad who’s a full-time musician was incredibly inspiring, and my mom has always been my biggest supporter, encouraging me every step of the way.
As I’ve grown as an artist, my songwriting and sound have evolved a lot. I’ve started listening to a much wider variety of artists and paying close attention to their songwriting and production techniques. Collaborating in writing sessions with other artists has also been a huge part of my growth and has pushed me to become a stronger singer songwriter.
Q: “Postcards” has such a distinct mood and feel. What was the core inspiration or moment behind writing this specific track?
EMILY GRACE: The inspiration behind “Postcards” came from preparing to leave my hometown to pursue my music. While it’s incredibly exciting, it’s also been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made because it means leaving behind people I love.
Writing this song helped me turn those mixed emotions into something positive. Instead of focusing on the sadness of saying goodbye, I wanted to create an uplifting dance-pop anthem that celebrates chasing your dreams while staying connected to the people who will always feel like home.
Q: Could you walk us through the studio process for ‘Postcards’? Were there any specific sounds, instruments, or production choices that really shaped its final atmosphere?
EMILY GRACE: From the very beginning, I knew I wanted the song to have a big dance drop. One of my biggest inspirations was “Takeaway” by The Chainsmokers, and I loved the way that track builds emotion before opening up into such an energetic drop. I wanted to capture that same feeling while still making the song my own.
I brought the demo into the studio, and my producer Liam Quinn completely understood the vision. He took the ideas I had and elevated them with incredible production, creating a sound that felt emotional, nostalgic and uplifting all at once.
Q:With “Postcards” dropping on August 21st, how does this single fit into the bigger picture of what you’re creating next? Can fans expect a larger project or tour?
EMILY GRACE: “Postcards” is the beginning of a much bigger journey. I’m having so much fun creating a world around my music and discovering the sound and style that truly represents me as an artist.
After spending so much time reflecting on my own music and hearing feedback from others, I’ve already got so many ideas for future songs—from production and melodies to different song structures. I’ve also been discovering artists and EPs that are inspiring the direction I want to explore next. I’m really excited for what’s coming and what I can create.
Q: If listeners take away just one core feeling or message after hearing ‘Postcards’ for the first time, what do you hope that is?
EMILY GRACE: I hope people who are far away from someone or somewhere they love feel comforted by this song. Distance doesn’t mean you’ve lost that connection. Whether it’s a phone call, a message, a flight, or even a postcard, the people who matter most are never as far away as they seem.
