“before you hit the water.” by Sebastian Schub

After releasing his successful EP, Sing Like Madonna, in 2025, Sebastian Schub continues his hot streak. He is signed to Capitol Records and wiidely recognized as a folk troubadour. His latest single of 2026, before you hit the water., is a folk-driven song that reflects on his own past mental health struggles..

The German-born, London-based singer-songwriter delivers a self-reflecting folk piece as he channels his inner teenage self and explores the questions of identity and belonging. This sentiment is expressed with deep melancholy and lyrics centered around self-preservation over a light, yet uplifting background. Written in the back of a cab, he sings “Catch yourself just a little bit before you hit the water/Stop yourself just a little bit before the night is over”. Sebastian reminds us that youth mental health is an ongoing crisis. Something as simple as encouragement or positivity may not eliminate your struggles, but it can lift you up from a low point.

As a teenager, Sebastian Schub left his family behind in Hamburg to pursue his career in London. Despite feeling welcomed by the people and immersing himself in all the country had to offer, he couldn’t help but feel alienated and estranged from his own culture. After spending years busking and doing random gigs, he finally found his footing. The Rolling Stone UK wrote “a troubadour for the modern age… it seems only a matter of time before Schub’s talents – honed on the streets of London – go truly global”. He supported Sam Smith at the London Coliseum recently and will be supporting Myles Smith at his headlining show in Birmingham next month.

“before you hit the water.” is his third single of 2026 following “haven’t found love” and “kiss of life. (you’re kinda magical)”. Fresh off of a headlining UK/Europe run, Sebastian Schub continues to evolve his music and grow his fanbase. If you’re interested in singer-songwriters, you should check him out.
