“Live Like My Cat“ by Cris Cap

“Live Like My Cat” is a lively two song EP by Germany-based artist Cris Cap. These songs both have a satisfying blend of pop and jazz styles, offering creative storytelling against a unique sonic backdrop. Fun, bouncing pianos, swaying jazz rhythms, and riffing guitars build arrangements that guarantee a good time for any listener.

The track “Live Like My Cat” is a clever and humorous take on longing for the simple lives that spoiled pets must lead. With lyrics about wishing to be “fed 24/7 and loved so much” and “see what it’s like to have nothing to do,” Cap pokes fun at the easy life his cat is leading, and wonders what it would be like to switch places with his pet. Though the tones of this song are lighthearted and joking, it is still very relatable in its desire for a simple life where someone else takes care of you. Though most of us probably would not actually want to switch places with our pets, it is a common feeling to want the lack of responsibility that comes with being under someone else’s care.

The other track on this EP, “Howlin’ At The Moon” shows Cap trying to get over a relationship, but feeling unanswered and ignored, “like a fool.” Grooving rhythms ease the pain of this breakup a little, and Cap’s vulnerable lyrics are comforting and relatable for anyone who is stuck thinking about an ex and pining for them back. These two tracks showcase Cap’s range of talent, and his ability to create catchy tunes no matter if he is singing about his lost love or his envy towards his cat.
