Artist Interview: “I’m New” by Dinah Is

Q: Hey Dinah Is! Introduce yourself to our audience here on Rising Artists!

DINAH IS: Hey there! Thank you so much for having me on your lovely blog. My name is Dinah Is, I’m 24 years old from Norway and I just released my second indie-pop single ‘’I’m New’’. You can stream and buy on platform of your choice!

Q: Do you write your own songs or is there a collaborator that you enjoy working with consistency?

DINAH IS:I always write my own songs, that is just the way it goes, but that doesn’t mean I am not open to trying out collaborating with others in the future. It has just always been a hobby I love doing in my own time.

Q: What made you want to become a musician?

DINAH IS: I was always passionate about music as a child, but becoming a musician was something I started exploring when playing the acoustic guitar! That has always been my main instrument. When I started high school I also learned to play the piano and started to sing a lot more. That’s when I realized how much I enjoy writing songs. Songwriting was something I could do with vocals and guitar combined, which made it really enjoyable. I was also really into folk, singer-songwriter, blues and country music which got me very interested in learning to play that kind of style.

Q: How is working with your producer Dylan Cooper? How do you guys decide on the sounds you come up with?

DINAH IS: He is a very talented producer. We usually come up with the sounds in the way that I send him a rough demo of how far I’ve come on a project, he keeps some of them and then also adds his own sounds, production, mixing etc. For the last few years I’ve been very interested in jazz hip hop (Tom Misch, Anderson .Paak, Mac Miller) and Dylan is a very skilled producer when it comes to most genres, but especially pop and hip hop. I, therefore, think our musical interests and skills put together create something really cool.

Q: Walk us through your creative process from start to finish.

DINAH IS: I usually always start with chords! I will either create a chord progression on guitar or piano and go from there. Another way I like to do it is experimenting on Logic Pro X by starting with for example a drum beat, adding chords, and then going from there. When I have established the chord progression on whatever instrument I am writing on, I will brainstorm possible melodies and then the lyrics come from there.

Q: What can we expect from you next?

DINAH IS: I am in the process of creating a music video for ‘’I’m New’’, and then I definitely plan on releasing a lot more music! I would also like to start gigging with a band as soon as that is possible, and explore what the perfect sound for me is going to be.
