Feel-good jam “California” by Avé Pes hit streaming services on March 25, 2022. The song is his fifth single since coming onto the solo music scene in 2018.
“California” gives off some very Charlie Puth vibes. The track makes use of sound effects that bring about a sense of travel. These sounds are combined with Pes’ amazing vocals and a catchy percussion beat. It’s a jam good time for a road trip with this song. It just has a fun, mid-tempo vibe to it that makes you wanna sing along to part and move a little in other parts. The lyrics are about meeting someone new. It’s more than that, though. You meet someone and feel like you have known them your whole life. I’m sure we all have had an instance like that.
When asked about the song, Avé Pes says, ”’California’ always had a personality, it was clear very early on that the song was a feel good summer tune. Maybe I needed an escape from lockdown. We just loved the vibe of the track and tried to keep that feeling going throughout the entire process. I’m really happy with how it ended up.” So are we, Avé. It is a subtle happy tune.
Avé Pes has another six songs dropping this year. The Sydney, Australia based artist has an EP launch happening later this year as well. He says the EP will feature the studio tracks reimagined with a live band on the stages of Sydney. To keep up with all things Avé Pes, be sure to follow him on his socials linked below.
Q&A with Avé Pes
Q: “California” definitely has feel-good vibes. What inspired it?
AVE PES: The song kinda came out of nowhere, however it is loosely based on a night out I had in late november of 2021. I met a girl and had a fantastic 2 hours on the dance floor of a club together, which kind of got me thinking about the first time you meet someone and what makes it a good time or not.
Q: Who would you love to collaborate with?
AVE PES: Set Mo, Flume, Hayden James, Jungle the list goes on.
Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?
AVE PES: I opened for a friend who was doing an EP launch back in 2017. I only played like 3 songs or something but it had been years since I had played in front of people and it felt so good. It kept eating away at me. The next year I ended up quitting my job and going on an extended holiday to Europe and as soon as I left Sydney I had this burning desire to get home and start my music career. I got back in November of 2018 and have been doing music as a job ever since.
Q: What has been one of the highlights of your music career so far?
AVE PES: Everytime I release a new song that becomes the new highlight. I am really keen for my first show which is in the plans for the second half of this year that will be the highlight of the last couple of years where all the music I have written and released over the last few years finally will be played live for the first time.
Q: What’s the music scene like in Sydney?
AVE PES: The music scene is coming back, it took a big hit the last couple of years, we had some unfortunate policies implemented even before covid that shut down a bunch of festivals, some of which were really supportive of up and coming artists. I am hoping that the last two years without music might allow people to realise how important it is so we can really see the Sydney music scene explode, there’s a wealth of talent in this city we just need a platform to share it.
Q: If you had to pick one album to take on a desert island, which would it be?
AVE PES: Jungle – For Ever or Nao – For All We Know
