“Pretty Alright” by Caitlin Lavagna

“Pretty Alright” is a song about gripping with depression and moving through the motions of mental health. Caitlin Lavagna uses her strength of storytelling to use creative imagery to connect her emotions with her listeners. This song touches on the idea of hiding how unwell you’re doing and putting on a brave face for everyone around you.

Caitlin Lavagna really unhinges her feelings in this all too resonating tune. The basis of this song is talking about how hard it can be just to feel “Pretty Alright”. Although a song focused on depression and lost of self worth, it had a beautiful touch of hope to it.

The overall production is very well aligned with the lyrics that accompany it. The instrumentals give the song a Pop-Rock edge. The guitar arrangements and dynamic drum backgrounds really help bring life to the words, creating levels for each of them to fall into. The production, instrumentals, vocals, and lyrics all give equal importance to the success of this song.

Caitlin Lavagna’s vocals send each word deeper into existence. She really knows how to use her vocal range to enhance the power of the lyrics. Throughout the course of the song, she sends in many high pitched moments to help elevate the song when connecting with the instrumentals. You can tell that she really believes the words she is singing.

I loved the rawness of this song and the way Caitlin Lavagna was able to put her feelings on the table for her audience to feel along with her.
