Born out of Bristol, UK, four-piece pop-rock outfit, Chandra, has been bringing their brand of optimistic and uplifting feel-good music to the world during a time when so many of us need it the most. Their latest single “Lifted” brings our spirits to new heights as it melts the listener’s stress away a little more each time they hit the “replay” button. A song that sits somewhere in between an anthem and a ballad, it reminds us of the greatest moments in life and guides listeners through a masterclass in remembering to keep a positive mental attitude.
As the piece begins, reverberant guitar chords strummed in an energetic fashion set the tone. Soon after, the vocals enter to begin the narrative structure with the line “So smile away. Let’s just assume you’ll have a good day.” The energy quickly builds and sustains for the duration of the piece. Major cords and upbeat hooks drive the message home on a musical level, inviting us to suspend our inhibitions. As we listen, we are thrown into the deep end of the band’s wonderful world with a growing love for all things around us with every note.
A song that is as easy to sing along to at a show as any earworm ever written, the chorus serves as a blueprint for communal unity, repeating the lines “I’m feeling like I’m high, and clouds are wisping by as we all stand hand in hand and we are lifted” with a little more enthusiasm each time they are sung through.
