With unapologetic lyrics and a modern rock sound, LA-based artist Marina Vanoff has released her latest single “Low,” out now. Vanoff found songwriting as an escape and hopes her writing can comfort and relate to her community. “Low” is the 90s alternative artist’s 4th single from her upcoming debut album Bones Baby, which is expected to release later this year.
The song launches into gritty electric guitars and sultry vocals. Lyrically, it follows a plot similar to Olivia Rodrigo’s “bad idea right?” Vanoff knows what she is doing is wrong but can’t help herself. “It’s not cool baby but I wanna know, what it feels like when you get low,” she sings confessing her curiosity in the single. The song’s edge is on par with modern artists like Oliva Rodrigo and Billie Eilish, and powerhouses like Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morrisette. Vanoff proves she can be vulnerable and share times when she knows she’s in the wrong.
When talking about her new single Vanoff shared, “Writing ‘Low’ was an exploration into the complexity of human emotion and moral ambiguity. It’s about being so obsessed with someone that the moment you have the chance to be with them, you take it, because the idea of not knowing what could be is unbearable.”
Overall, her raw attitude and rich storytelling gives the listener something to connect and rock out to. Vanoff’s honesty and attitude set her apart in the rising alternative scene. Be sure to check out her new single and debut album Bones Baby, out later this year.
