Showing her strength and vulnerability as an artist, Reina Mora pours her heart out in her new single “Weeds.” It was originally released on June 20th, her mother’s birthday. Mora shared that the song was not about her mother, but she released it on her birthday because she always believed in her as an artist. The LA based artist is a Puerto Rican singer songwriter who blends her influences of Rock, Pop, Folk, Latin, and Country.
“Weeds” tells the story of Mora’s divorce and the pain that she experienced during that time. She talks about how much he gained and how much she lost in the relationship. In the hook of the song she sings, “you became a garden / I was left with weeds.”
When reflecting on the song, Mora shares, “The song essentially is about giving your all to someone and feeling like you were left with nothing. But it’s also a song of hope and triumph after facing adversity.”
Alongside the release, the singer also released “Weeds (Stripped)” which highlights the lyrics even further by having a piano ring out notes behind Mora’s powerful voice. The bravery and strength in her voice is undeniable and the stripped version allows it to shine even brighter.
The final piece of promotion was a beautiful music video. It starts out in the desert, where Mora has been deserted by her loved one. After a span of time in black and white it cuts to her in color surrounded by color, showcasing her triumph.
