“Burning“ by The Sea at Midnight

As climate change and its detrimental effects begin to affect our communities and the world around us more and more, it can be easy to slip into hopelessness and become apathetic to try and protect yourself from facing the harsh realities of our worsening climate. But “Burning” by The Sea at Midnight encourages the listener to continue paying attention to the causes and effects of climate change, as there is still much work to be done, and plenty of value in staying hopeful. 

With raw and aggressive instrumentation laying the scene for passionate and imploring vocals, The Sea at Midnight beautifully displays their passion for addressing climate change. With lyrics like “trees are burning” and “weather’s turning,” this song simply but effectively describes the way nature is being harmed by increasing global temperatures. We have all seen the disastrous effects on places around the world, and with these environmental catastrophes becoming more frequent, thought-provoking songs like “Burning” are becoming more important than ever. 

Heavy drums and enveloping synth textures create tension matched by lyrics like “there’s no time to wait.” “Burning” is a cathartic song that encourages you to feel your fear, but also acts as a call to action. Even though it is easier to ignore fears and dismiss warning calls, The Sea at Midnight reminds us we don’t have the luxury of being ignorant. “Burning” expresses frustration over the inaction of leaders and grief over the suffering earth, offering a reminder to us all to pay attention to this issue.
