Signals Over Skylines, an innovative pop punk band based in Florida, blends genres to create captivating, high energy tracks in their new three song EP, “Day after Day.” With live-tracked instruments and passionate vocal performances, this EP is reminiscent of classic 2000s pop punk, with modern alternative sounds and Signals Over Skylines’ own unique style weaving through each layer of the arrangement to craft a fresh and exciting sound.
The first track opens with acoustic guitar, but then slams into huge rhythms and belted vocals singing “goodbye, goodbye.” It’s an interesting lyric to begin an EP with, and shows Signals Over Skylines tendency to make thought-provoking choices that give the listener something to ponder over, not just listen to. This first track is also where the EP gets its name, so you know it is a meaningful one. “Day after day” follows a hesitant and hopeful story about wanting to be with a certain person every day. It acknowledges the scary fact that relationships can end at any time, for any reason, but it is still more than worth it to do your best and not give up.
“Bears,” the second song on the EP, has awesome guitar riffs and chugging chords. The narrator looks to escape reality with a partner, singing “as the world begins to shake, drift away with me.” The electric guitar solos are so enthralling in this song that they transport the listener to this alternate reality the couple is looking for. “Rain” is a vulnerable and passionate closer about offering yourself to someone who you know might not let you in. Throughout the EP, themes of love and hope, even in difficult times, inspire and comfort the listener.
