“Resolution“ by Amelie

“Resolution” by Amelie is an anthem for the new year, written and produced by the thirteen year old artist herself, alongside her dad. This alternative pop rock song doesn’t fit neatly into one genre, merging unpredictable synth textures, introspective songwriting, and heavy beats to craft something that is representative of Amelie’s one of a kind style. Amelie artistry extends across languages, as she writes every song in both English and Spanish. Both versions of “Resolution” seek to captivate the listener and build determination to stick to New Year’s resolutions. 

This track opens with the lines “I got pains to put behind me, I got new joy ahead,” perfectly capturing what most people long for with each new year. A fresh year is an opportunity to put the past behind you and work towards a better life, which could be anything from having a more positive outlook to drastically changing how you live. Whatever your resolution may be, Amelie offers a place of catharsis and inspiration in this song. The intense drum hits, surprising ear candy moments, and invigorating synths all work to create a landscape full of resolve. 

Amelie says “bring on the new year, ‘cause yeah, I’ve got me a resolution” before the big rhythms of the chorus slam in. The attitude and playfulness with which Amelie delivers this sentence tells us she’s not afraid to look change in the eye. The gripping vocal performance is a stand out element of the track, and the passionate singing makes the lyrics hit home even harder. “Resolution” is an energetic track and a motivating ode to the new year.
