British Columbia-based singer-songwriter Kele Fleming has enjoyed a long and fruitful musical career that has inspired her fans throughout the decades. Defined by her sweet and comforting vocal tambour and lyrics that reflect the poetic way she interprets the world, she has won the hearts of fans all over the world with her unique brand of folk rock. As she moves into a new chapter of her musical journey, she seems to have truly struck a chord with her listeners as well as herself with the release of her newest single “Microdoses.” A sentimental and vulnerable opus, it reminds us all that no matter the circumstances, there is always cause for hope.
The piece begins with a mellow arpeggiated bassline that introduces a smooth percussive melody. Shortly after, an uplifting guitar strums cords, and the music’s direction takes shape. Fleming’s vocals then appear to begin the narrative in a soft flowing falsetto with the opening lyrics “We are microdosing the apocalypse and its hard to believe we’re this close to the end. Is it love after all?” We feel uplifted from the first few notes and an immediate sense of solace in her vocal tone.
The message of the music reflects the artist’s deepest philosophies that in the face of fear, there is always an opportunity to take an optimistic tone. Focusing on how we can do right moving forward rather than reflecting on what we have done wrong in our pasts, it muses on the love we should feel in our hearts when all else around us might look so grim.
