“Evergreen” by AUNCE

“Evergreen” is an introspective alternative pop track from genre bending, London-based artist AUNCE. Dreamy pop sonics and experimental beats merge in this track to craft a unique sonic landscape that hooks the listener from start to finish. AUNCE offers a poignant perspective on what it means to take a leap of faith in this song. “Evergreen” explores the difficult process of truly getting to know yourself, and what it feels like to walk into the unknown with this intimate self-knowledge. It’s an inspiring reminder that a deep self-love can protect you against difficult times and unwelcome change, as well as strengthen the good times and the change you are ready for.

The song opens with a crystal synth shimmering around you, enveloping you as the pulsing beat and captivating vocals begin. The first bit of the song has a generally sparse arrangement, then explodes into the chorus with ambient sonic textures and layered vocals that surround you. Ear candy synth moments catch you off guard, and the dense arrangement is immensely satisfying. The lyric “stepping on a precipice, I was my own nemesis,” is mirrored in this moment of production, as it feels exactly like you’ve stepped off of a precipice and into this sonic leap of faith.

The line “north star when i’m crossing the sea, deep water right under me, I can circumnavigate the swell and the waves” is particularly impactful. The idea that in dark nights or deep water, you can still find your way simply by believing in yourself and staying steady, is a beautiful sentiment.
