Broadcasting to the world from the Greek island of Crete, new wave soft rock outfit Stray Blue has emerged onto the scene with a sense of passion and enthusiasm that shines through in their music with clear abundance. Nostalgic in its composition, but nuanced in their delivery, their music bridges the gap between generations through their sound as well as lyrical vulnerability. Their latest release, an acoustic imagining of their single “Wake Up & Smile” champions the values they embody as a project in undeniable ways and introduces them to the world in ways only they can.
An acoustic guitar optimistically strums in an upbeat progression to begin the piece, and we are immediately thrown into the world of their music. Frontman Nick Anastakis shortly after begins to speak in a resonant and authoritative voice, as he introduces the message of his music, stating, “Hey, let me tell you something. Life is not always the way you want it to be, so listen carefully, now.” The music then picks up in intensity, and we are thrown into the world of the song through an acoustically-driven symphony of rock, leaving no ambiguity as to their musical intentions.
Through Anastakis’ delivery, their music plays like a philosophical account of their views of the world and advice from someone who has lived a life worth talking about. Melodically sensible and upbeat all the way through, the single we feel a sense of comfort and motivation through their work. Having accomplished so much with this release, fans can only wait with anticipation to see what could be coming next from these artists.
