“Big House” by Thurane

Based out of Youngtown, Arizona, Singer-songwriter and worship leader Thurane has been spreading their message through music for as long as their fans can remember. Defined by their deeply poignant lyrics and optimistic rock style of play, their work has been redefining what it means to create music in a Christian context for many years. Their latest release “Big House” continues to push these boundaries as it shines through as a marquee standout in their repertoire, and promotes the values they hold so dear to them.

The piece begins with an upbeat rock and blues-style electric guitar introduction that highlights the artist’s musical proclivities for starting their work with an earworm hook. A sharp percussive ensemble quickly joins into the chorus and we are immediately drawn into the world of the music on a fundamental level. As the artist begins the narrative, they open with the line “I don’t know where you lay your head or where you call your home. I don’t know where you eat your meals or where you talk on the phone.” The tenderness of the lyrics highlights the vulnerability they are meant to celebrate as the verses progress, describing a community they hold so dearly and its mission to accept all to join it.

The themes of universal inclusion and abundant love are not only present throughout the record, but infectious. The morality of the artist both in the context of their work and the life they lead, motivates the listener to live in the service of creating a better world around them for all people.
