Press Q&A with Morpheus von Dobenhausen

Q: Your brilliant single “3AM” explores a very specific, nocturnal atmosphere. What is it about the quiet, early hours of the morning that inspired the sound and concept behind this dance/electronic track?

Morpheus von Dobenhausen: The original idea for 3AM was actually completely different. We were sitting in the studio working on lyrics that were heading in another direction when Henry suddenly said, “C’mon, headphones on, world goes mute.” That single sentence changed everything. It instantly reminded me of those nights when you’re lying awake at 3 a.m., thinking about music, lyrics or life. You put your headphones on, the outside world disappears, and for a few minutes it’s just you and the music. That’s the moment we wanted to capture.

Q:The production on “3AM” features an incredible depth of rhythm and texture. Can you walk us through your creative process in the studio when you were building the sonic world for this particular release?

Morpheus von Dobenhausen: The goal was never to invent a completely new electronic sound. 3AM was meant to continue the musical direction we had already started with Manuela (Electronic Version). Through a mutual connection, a well-known YouTuber famous for his creative synthesizer sound design shared some inspiring preset banks for Diva and Serum with us. Those sounds became the starting point, but the final character came from layering, experimenting and building everything around the song itself. The production grew naturally from there.

Q: Dance and electronic music relies heavily on moving the listener emotionally and physically. What is the main feeling or energy you want your fans to take away when they blast “3AM” through their speakers?

Morpheus von Dobenhausen: For me, it’s not about turning the volume up as loud as possible. It’s about creating a moment. I hope people put their headphones on after a long day, switch the world off for a while and simply drift away. If the rolling E-mu bass makes you feel like you’re floating on your bed or your couch for a few minutes, we’ve done our job.

But if someone plays it loud through a great sound system, that’s fun too. If the toms and drums make the speakers wave a white flag, while the arpeggios and rolling bass pull everything into one groove, I’d love people to carry that energy with them—whether they’re at work, in the gym or just trying to clear their head before going to sleep.

Q: Let’s dive into some fun stuff for the fans! If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life while stuck on a desert island, which one are you choosing and why?

Morpheus von Dobenhausen: I’d probably choose a Prince album. Not because I grew up trying to copy him, but because every time I listen, I discover something new. His arrangements, his songwriting and the way he combined genres are incredible. You can hear how much passion, creativity and energy went into his music. That inspires me day by day and reminds me that there’s always another level to reach as a songwriter and producer.

Q: Every artist has a unique routine. What is your absolute go-to snack or beverage when you are deep in a late-night studio session?

Morpheus von Dobenhausen: My favourite studio drink is definitely a hot chocolate. The others always tease me for drinking hot chocolate instead of coffee. They jokingly call me “the milk kid,” but I don’t mind. It tastes great, and it helps me relax. And when a song is finally finished, I like to celebrate the moment with a glass of red wine. That’s my little tradition.

Q: If your musical style was a high-fashion aesthetic or a specific clothing line, how would you describe the look and vibe of your sound to someone who has never heard it?

Morpheus von Dobenhausen: I’d call it casual elegance with neon reflections. Clean lines, dark colours, a few unexpected details that only reveal themselves when you look a little closer. That’s how I like to produce music too. Nothing flashy just for the sake of it—I’d rather create something that grows on you every time you listen.
