There’s a style of indie music that, to me, comes across very smooth and calming that I often refer to as “70s home movie.” It’s the type of music that is relaxing, has a bit of vintage charm, and makes you fall deep into an entranced state – as if you’re watching a home video with sepia tones. All of that said, that is what I got when listening to “The Long and Lonely Wave” by none other than Mowesby.
“The Long and Lonely Wave” does not overdo a thing. It’s simple yet striking, calming yet motivating. It’s the type of song you want to put on at the end of the day to decompress. Mowesby set out to create a so-called “meditative journey” and hit it out of the park in that regard. It’s a song meant to aid those with what’s felt like an eternity on the struggle bus these past few years. With every day feeling harder to get through, some nice, relaxing music can help aid in the necessary nightly unwind.
The way Mowesy approaches this song, again, has this very 1970s feel to it. In that, it is as soothing as it is ethereal. Singer-songwriters from that era truly knew how to embrace the music and let that be what leaves audiences enthralled, and Mowesby is reminiscent of that sentiment.
Mowesby’s latest is his first release of 2022.
