If you’ve felt nostalgic for 90’s alternative rock, Mr.Wizard is the band you didn’t know you needed. The Pittsburgh-based group released their new 5 track EP I Know I Don’t Know on July 29 and it is nothing shy of the alternative, Nirvana-esque sound we’re missing from today’s rock genre.
The album begins with “I Don’t Want To Think About It,” a drum-heavy opening track with a grunge melody similar to “Smells like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. It leads into the electric second track “Wait and See” with lead vocals reminiscent of early Blink-182. “By the Sound of It” features an addictive laidback guitar like the one you would hear in your favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song.
The next track “Make it Alone” features an impressive guitar and drum solo that will take fans back in time to car jam sessions with friends. The album finishes with “Greener”, a reflective vocal-heavy track also reminiscent of Blink-182 and Weezer. I Know I Don’t Know feels 90’s influenced not only sonically but by the angsty themes expressed in their lyrics. Some of the themes weaved into their EP include reminiscing about the past, reflecting on the present, and not wanting to think about the future.
Mr.Wizard had one goal in mind when creating their newest EP and did an excellent job at executing it. They made an album for the 30-something-year-olds of today that miss the music of their generation. I Know I Don’t Know by Mr.Wizard brought new life to a nostalgic sound that never gets old.
