Singer, songwriter, and artist D’Lee’s debut EP “Wonder Woman” showcases her unique blend of country, rock, and blues. Her genre-fusing sound is flawlessly executed within her six dynamic and lively songs, guaranteed to get anyone to listen. The Fort Worth, Texas native’s EP has been highly anticipated and is now available on all major music streaming platforms.
“Wonder Woman” opens up with the mighty “Kissing Frogs,” a song with an infectious melody and clever lyrics, poking fun at the classic fairytale of finding true love. The “frogs” D’lee continues to meet don’t live up to her standards–hoping that her actual prince will soon arrive. The explosive track showcases D’Lee’s raspy, hardcore vocals, making for the ultimate opening to the EP.
“Cinderella” follows “Kissing Frogs,” which is another funloving twist on a modern fairytale. Lyrics include “Everybody says I’m a fairytale’s dream, but even Cinderella needs a day off it seems” and “I trade in my ballgown for jeans and a t-shirt; even Cinderella needs a day off work,” tease the audience. At the same time, her witty lyrics empower women, making the track both a self-love and freedom anthem.
The title track, “Wonder Woman,” strays from the previous, more upbeat songs, showing a more vulnerable, deeper side of D’Lee. Her storytelling of a little girl to adulthood, likely reflecting her own life, is sung over a calming, serene instrumental. Lyrics about growing up, life’s hardships, and self-discovery are some topics discussed; “Wonder Woman” beautifully captures these bittersweet moments. “Better Than Bitter” showcases D’lee’s more hard rock side, consisting of hard-hitting guitars and drums, while the closing tracks “Whispering Like a Yell” and “Chasing Dreams” are emotional ballads, the latter being a tribute to single mothers.
Overall, “Wonder Woman” is a dynamic body of art that will pique people’s interest everywhere.
