“Said, I’m Sorry“ by Anton Commissaris

“Said, I’m Sorry” opens with a beautiful fiddle melody as the bouncing groove begins to lock in the rhythm, setting the scene for this classic country track. Anton Commissaris tells a vulnerable story in “Said, I’m Sorry,” mourning the choices he made that led to the end of a relationship. The shuffling groove provides a steady backbone to the song, as pedal steel and electric guitar glide across the track and the passionate vocals draw the listener into this sad tale.

Commissaris spends this song apologizing profusely to his ex-love, acknowledging that he didn’t realize the greatness of what he had until it was gone. He sings “I’m sorry for hurting you, I forgot that what we had wasn’t all that bad.” In the midst of a relationship you’ve gotten comfortable with, it can be easy to get too comfortable and forget all of the benefits it is bringing to your life. A sudden yearning for independence or something new can trick your mind into believing you don’t want to be in the relationship anymore. Commissaris is now facing the consequences of this decision, though, saying “darling, I love only you” with the hopes of getting her back.

Though it is clear the narrator has wronged this person, it is also clear the deep remorse he has. Lines like “sorry I left you high and dry, sorry I made you cry” show him trying to take responsibility for the pain he has caused, and ease that hurt as much as he can. The folk style storytelling, along with the country instrumentation, create an invigorating sonic landscape for this apologetic tune.
