South-Korean singer-songwriter and producer Maugic has been making big strides to prove themselves as the shining star of Seoul with an auspicious start to their musical career. Having only released a small sample of the music that is in their heart, fans have keenly taken note of the artist’s talents as they quickly take their place in the limelight. Their Sophomore single “Starfull” proves itself as a soulful example of the artist’s writing talents and creative proclivities as it chronicles the life and times of the artist’s mother and the mutual admiration between them.
The piece begins with an ominous whistle that introduces the light, yet resonant, strumming of an acoustic guitar that creates a peaceful atmosphere. As the music progresses, we fall deeper and deeper into the calming world of the music. Soon after, the artist’s vocals appear to begin the narrative with the opening line “She was born where the fields ran wild, a war had came, stole all the wealth. Her family left for a mining town, there beneath a night sky her star fell down.” Immediately, we feel the weight of the words and their importance to the artist.
Serving as a marquee example of the artist’s sentimentality both in terms of musicality and lyric writing that plays like poetry, the single makes incredible strides to define their musical identity at an early stage in their journey. With such an incredible introduction to their work, fans can only wait with anticipation to see what could possibly be coming down the pipeline for their next release.
