Q: I absolutely love the groove that was put into the Nigel Soul Remix of After The Summer Falls. What compelled you to make the remix of an already great song?
SPEARMAN: I love what Nigel Lowis does with songs! He listened to the original and said he had a great idea for a remix and so he gave his own special flavor to the song.
Q: How was your experience working with producer Nigel Lowis?
SPEARMAN: A very kind person and just a no-nonsense kind of guy:-) Looking forward to doing another tune with him!!
Q: With you coming from a very diverse background, who were some of your musical influences growing up?
SPEARMAN: Yes true! So there was lots of jazz music when I was growing up from my father’s side and lot’s of classical music from my mom’s side…
When I heard Massive Attack the first time I was very inspired to do my own thing with music.. And of course, singers like Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill but also Florence & The Machine, James Blake are people I like to listen to.
Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?
SPEARMAN: So when I was six years old I started to play the violin and studied for many years …but one day I saw this band playing with this strong-looking woman singing the blues that is the moment I wanted to become a singer:-)
Q: What is the music scene like in the Netherlands?
SPEARMAN: It is a very friendly and supportive atmosphere towards art..however, it’s a small country, and hard to succeed as an artist. You really need to broaden your horizon if you want to make it with the kind of music I make..
Q: What would you like to say to your fans out there?
SPEARMAN: I can’t wait to meet you!! I can’t wait to play live again and feel your energy! Hope to see you soon…
