Artist Interview: “Leaving You” by Olivia Castriota

Q: “Leaving You” is the badass breakup anthem we were missing in our lives. It’s all about leaving toxic relationships in the dust. Did any real-life events occur in your life that inspired this track?

OLIVIA: Well, I’m glad you found it!! And yes, this song isn’t “based on a true story,” it IS the true story!!

Q: We see you worked with Grammy Nominated producer Sean Hamilton on “Leaving You.” What was it like working with him?

OLIVIA: He’s hands down the best producer I’ve ever worked. He’s like a machine. A man of few words but he doesn’t have to say much because everything comes through in the music.

Q: Just days after graduating from college, you decided to go all in on your dreams of being a musician. What was the deciding factor that made you realize you had to pursue music?

OLIVIA: I always wanted to be musician. From very early on I had a fierce passion for singing and performing. It’s all I ever wanted to do.

Q: What is it about New York and New York’s music scene that drew you to that city?

OLIVIA: Well, from the time I was a teenager I just had the idea in my head that NY was the place to be!! The place to get discovered! I think around age 15 I decided as soon as I could, I was going to live there. A few years later, I moved to NYC and I haven’t left since! I love that you can always find a live performance within a ten minute walk of wherever you are. The amount of talent this city has is incredible and the hustle is infectious. Everyone around you is working tirelessly to achieve their goals and it’s very inspiring.

Q: You made your album, “I Need a Minute”, in 7 days. How did the album come together so quickly?

OLIVIA: Yes!! I think having a rough outline of the project and a team of super professional and talented people was the key! We stayed focused on the goal and just came together and let the magic happen.

Q: In your own words, how would you describe the music that you typically create?

OLIVIA: Anthems for every mood!
