Artist Interview: “You Used To Be” by Trisha and Thara

Q: What inspired you two to write the beautiful song “You Used To Be”?

TRISHA & THARA: We have been writing songs for over a year now, and have enjoyed every aspect of our songwriting process. For our debut single “You Used to Be”, we wanted to write about feelings that other people can relate to like friendship, love/break-up, separation, and hope. We thought that the idea of someone who you loved the most, is not around anymore, would relate to many people going through hard times.

Q: You two are magnificent and aren’t regular choir girls. You two really dived deep into your music careers. You both studied at the Chicago School of Rock and the Lacefield Music School in Missouri. And there’s more that you guys have done. What is it like to be doing a lot of this at a young age? What did you two learn from your experiences?

TRISHA & THARA: We have enjoyed performing in front of an audience from a very young age, and every step we have taken in our music journey has enabled us to improve our musicality. We are so grateful to have had so many wonderful opportunities early on, and we thank everyone who has helped us get here. Over the last couple of years, we have matured as songwriters and learned so much about each other. Sometimes it tends to be a lot since we are in high school and middle school, but we have figured out how to manage our time well, and balance our priorities.

Q: How have your parents played a role in your music journey?

TRISHA & THARA: Our parents have played a significant role in our lives, and have been there every step of the way. They always motivate us to become better singer-songwriters. In fact, they were the ones who really encouraged us to dive deeper into songwriting. We are truly grateful to have such amazing parents!

Q: How has working on music with each other affected your relationship as sisters?

TRISHA & THARA: Music has brought us a lot closer as sisters. Performing together brings us a lot of joy as we continue to create several memories that we are going to cherish for a long time. Although we have different ideas when it comes to creating/making music, we collectively put them together to create great melodies and lyrics.

Q: What are your favorite things about each other?

TRISHA: I always admire how Thara picks up piano pieces so quickly, and hits high notes effortlessly. It’s always really fun to perform with her.

THARA: I love the way Trisha expresses the right level of emotions in any song she sings. You don’t need music, you can just listen to her sing all day long. I can’t imagine doing a show without her.

Q: The two of you remind me of Lennon and Maisy Stella, which has me wondering, who are your influences?

TRISHA & THARA: Streaming platforms have really opened our eyes to so many talented artists. Some of the artists that we enjoy listening to include The Weekend, Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Lewis Capaldi, and Khalid.

Q: Who are Trisha and Thara? And what can we expect to hear from the two of you in the future? What are you guys working on now?

TRISHA & THARA: We are a pop sister duo from Boston, Massachusetts. Currently, we are focusing on writing more original music as well as trying to grow our audience/fan base. We recently performed at Hard Rock Cafe in Boston and The Stone Church in New Hampshire, and are hoping to perform at more venues this year. We’ll soon be releasing our second song, so stay tuned for that! In the future you can expect us to release more songs, and perform at famous venues.
