Artist Interview: “Vicarious Catharsis” by The Things

Q: I dig the instrument usage in “Vicarious Catharsis”, who are the biggest influences for The Things?

THE THINGS: Thank you! Our biggest influences are pretty spread across the board, but if we had to chose a few it would be Jimi Hendrix, Curtis Mayfield, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Sly and the Family Stone, and Pink Floyd

Q: “She’s Got My Number” is the top single off “Vicarious Catharsis”, did any real-life events occur in your lives that inspired the song?

THE THINGS: Haha yes it’s pretty complicated but the just of it is she wouldn’t stop calling and knocking on my door

Q:  In your own words, how would you describe the music that you typically create?

THE THINGS: We like to flow together in whatever direction we are pulled, but we definitely lean towards the blues.

Q: The group is filled with multi talented individuals, who does/plays what in the band?

THE THINGSMatty moose plays the drums, Justice plays the bass and the tape machines, Adam plays flute, saxaphone and clarinet, Oscar rips on the guitar an vocals, Lukas plays guitar theremin and pedals.

Q: What has been one of your most favorite memories along the path to making your “Vicarious Catharsis”?

THE THINGSRecording answer to the question was one take and a party of all our best friends

Q: What do you guys like to do together when you aren’t working on music?

THE THINGS: We live together so honestly we do everything together
