Artist Interview: “AUTOMATIC” by Bennie Felix

Q:  I love the storytelling in your voice! What was the inspiration behind “Automatic”

Bennie Felix: Awe thank you so much for saying that! I wanted to write a song about falling love at first sight, from my own queer perspective. It’s something so romantic and almost cliche, but that’s what I love about it—leaning in. I never had a song like this growing up and I wanted to put it out there so that anyone, no matter who they are or who they love, has a song about this truly powerful thing. That instant, immediate connection!

Q: What did you enjoy most about making this song?

Felix: I wrote and recorded at my late Grandma’s house! At the top of a big hill. In her closet, around all her clothes. hahaha! My favorite place to make music is at her house. It’s the safest, best environment for me to really sing and write from my soul because i feel her with me when I’m doing it. All my music is dedicated to her. Love you, Beverly.

Q: Who would you most like to collaborate with, if it could be anyone in the world?

Felix: Oooooh! I love Jamiroquai!! He’s been a major inspiration for some of my newer music. He’s such a vibe and his music is like really important for me. I also love Kehlani, she’s the most talented singer and songwriter I know. Just the most beautiful artist and soul or my generation for sure. I love Omar Apollo and Troye Sivan too…theres just too many!! Omg I cant forget Destin Conrad – I love him!

Q: In your own words, how would you describe the music that you typically create?

Felix: I make a mix of white boy r&b infused with pop. I wanna make you feel, but I wanna make you move too. I have some songs coming out this year that are super funky and some that lean into the pop-sphere.

Q: What projects are currently in the works?

Felix: I’m releasing one song and music video every month of this year. So a lot to come! This is just the beginning hahaha. Stay tuned 😉

Q: Any parting words to your fans?

Felix: Thank you all so much for listening, for feeling, for loving! I’m so excited to share what’s coming next! Let’s get funky and spunky, babes.
