“Something to Believe In” by Jacob Cullum hit streaming on April 21, 2022. The song is the first single of his upcoming debut album which is set to release in June this year. Cullum says that the album will have ten tracks and that all the production on “this one” was done by him.
“Something to Believe In” features simple kick drum and cymbals combined with a subtle electric guitar sound and Cullum’s velvety smooth vocals. While they’re not deep smooth like chocolate, they are a higher, airier smooth like silk. Warm. Tender. The kind of vocals that soothe the soul. The song just screams relaxation and feel-good vibes.
The lyrics, written by Cullum himself, bring focus to the unknown and emotions that come about when you’re overwhelmed with the world around you. What’s next? Why did this happen? It’s a kind of “yeah, this is what I need” song. My favorite part is the line “leave a message at the tone today. Need a moment to myself.” I often find myself needing to echo this same sentiment as I get flustered and overwhelmed with my day. I’m sure many of you can relate to that!
Jacob Cullum is based in Kansas City, Missouri and is on staff at Church of Resurrection as a worship leader and songwriter. The singer-songwriter says he makes music because it restores his soul and that it’s “very cool” if anyone can resonate with something he has created. While he has only been releasing music for the last couple of years, he says that he has been writing songs since he was around 10 years old.
