“Dorothy” by Darcy Kate

Listening to more than two-three dozen new artists every month, I have found that Australia is literally bursting with talent and it is a shame they are so far from where I sit because I’d most definitely love to be immersed in their local music scenes. Alex the Astronaut and G Flip come to mind, but this week I have added Darcy Kate to the growing list because after hearing “Dorothy,” I would be unwise not to.

If you hand me a song that makes me think I am in the early ‘90s listening to Lisa Loeb, I am in love and that is exactly where “Dorothy” transported me to. Darcy Kate’s vocals are like Loeb in that they have this innate sweetness to them but at the same time are able to carry the weight of reality-based lyrics that have just a hint of whimsy to them. Which is to say, “Dorothy” comes through like a daydream full of hope but definitely is rooted in real-life aspirations and dedication.

With indie charm and a delightful delivery, you can’t help but want to cheer on the person singing this song about going for what they want out of life. It is a song that I can see many attaching their own ambitions to. “Dorothy” is also the fourth single from Darcy Kate’s debut that is set to drop in June 2022.
