High School is one of the few things that everybody feels some sort of way about. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad depends on the person, but everybody understands it. On J Shaw & Mannis’ latest release, “High School” they manage to capture all of the best parts of it in an exciting and nostalgic way. Driven by infectious energy, there’s never a moment that isn’t larger than life. Reminiscent of artists like Wiz Khalifa or Asher Roth, it’s the type of song that puts a smile on your face and makes you want to throw a party. Clocking in at just under 3 minutes, “High School” is definitely not a song you’re going to want to miss!
High School may not have been everyone’s highlight, but “High School” does a phenomenal job capturing the best parts of it. No matter what your experience was, this fun song will have convince you that you miss it and fill you with blissful nostalgia. One of my personal favorite parts was how well the different styles worked together. At one point the song would feel like hip hop, then on a dime flip into a new vibe. No matter what led the groove, however, it was cohesive and matched the song’s energy perfectly.
Powerful and fun vocals take the forefront, while the versatile instrumental keeps things interesting. Whether leaning into the electronic elements or simply a crowd of voices, everything was high-energy and creative. One of the easiest parts to overlook when it comes to making music is HAVING FUN! J Shaw and Mannis manage to not only sound like they’re having a blast – but make sure that the listener does as well.
