Soft spoken with lyrics that cut deep, Fran Lusty’s most recent single “Oceans Apart” is available now. The singer was born in Cambridge but moved to London to further pursue her music career. Lusty has already seen success on the indie scene, including being featured on BBC Introducing and selling out a headlining show with her band. She is in the process of writing and recording her debut album and will be touching on many different aspects of her life.
“Oceans Apart” perfectly captures a raw and real indie-folk sound. The story is a cute but bittersweet one about a long-distance relationship filled with longing and daydreaming. You immediately get to know Lusty right out of the gate with her singing, “If I could I’d run away with you / but what would my mother say?” It showcases the innocence of the song and how cautious the narrator of this song is.
The drums and guitars surround Lusty’s beautiful writing and allow the clever and descriptive words to shine. The instrumental highlights the productions’ ability to have balance: giving both vocals and instruments an equal chance to shine. It’s the perfect sound for those who are already fans of Gracie Abrams, Lizzie McAlpine, and Phoebe Bridgers.
When reflecting on her single, Lusty shared, “my latest single explores the frustrations of a long-distance relationship, and the temptations of dropping all responsibilities to be with the other person. Recorded in Brighton but written about a sweetheart in Paris.”
Be sure to check out “Oceans Apart” and be on the lookout for Fran Lusty’s debut album!
