“Twinkle” by Kelsie Kimberlin

Ukrainian-American Pop artist, Kelsie Kimberlin continues to define her identity as a worldly humanitarian at every stage of her career, advocating for change and social justice with every song she writes. With the release of her first full-length EP, one single on the record stands out and holds a special place in the artist’s soul at a time she feels the world needs to hear it the most. In celebration of Pride month, she utilizes her platform in an honorable fashion with the release of “Twinkle,” a personal and memorable ballad, honoring someone very close to her heart. Dedicated to the transgender youth of the world, the story was written about one in particular who came into the artist’s life, Dempsey, an American preteen who Kimberlin believes has an incredible story to tell.

From the beginning of the piece, the tone is uplifting and optimistic both in a narrative and musical capacity. A synthetic pop-inspired beat sets an upbeat tone as Kimberlin begins to speak about her relationship with Dempsey, starting on no uncertain terms from the opening line “You are such a beauty.”

Kimberlin delivers countless words of support not only to Dempsey but to the transgender community as a whole, offering unconditional love and support with every verse. She fortifies this point consistently throughout the piece with lines such as “You are not a mistake, silver linings bright.”

In the final verse, Kimberlin drives her point home and reinforces the love she offers through the repetition of the line “Twinkle twinkle, little star, you are, you are what you are.” The line feeling truer every time they are spoken, she repeats them as the song fades out.
