“Event Horizon” by The Transference

Chicago-based Indie Rock outfit, The Transferences, have taken the first step of many on their musical journey as they celebrate the release of their Freshman EP “100 Mirrors.” A project formed by musicians with a lifelong passion for their art, the warmth emanating from their music is contagious. In a record that proves euphoric, nostalgic, and endearing by every measure, we feel the love they have for their craft in every track. Highlighting the album, their track “Event Horizon” stands out as an energetic pick me up amongst the collection.

An upbeat bassline rumbles to begin the piece. The other instruments join in one at a time as each measure passes, until singer Laura Hollingsworth’s voice appears to give the song narrative wings. From the opening line “Born in the Holocene, unaware of the freedom to breathe, confident that the world will always have our back” we feel the angst and grit that make up the anthem’s nucleus.

As the song progresses, the spirited animation of the tempo never stops to catch its breath. Characterized by the lively enthusiasm of the band’s instrumental progression and Hollingsworth’s sharp and flowing alto delivery, the inspiration drawn from the Alternative scene of the turn of the Millennium is undeniable. With the music seeming to come from a genuine place, the flow of the piece feels authentic rather than formulaic. With this auspicious beginning, these artists have shown fans of what they are capable of producing, leaving us to wait with anticipation to see what will come from their next release.
