A beautiful ballad with a rich story, duo Starlight Alice has released their 4th single “Mary,” available everywhere now. Starlight Alice is made up of Jacob Browne and Luke Potter; the two artists decided to come together to create a new sound. The band has a rich singer/songwriter sound, letting the lyrics and vocals be spotlighted. As solo artists, the duo brings 30 million combined Spotify listeners to Starlight Alice.
The sound of the song is so classic and a perfect wedding song, reminiscent of songs like “You and Me” by Lifehouse and “What Am I” by Why Don’t We. The romance is very well thought from the emotion in the vocals to the soft chirping of the birds in the intro. Starlight Alice sings about a woman who sees a man as his potential, she knows he is more than his bad days.
When asked what the song means to them, the duo shared, “‘Mary’ is a very personal insight into how people come into our lives and pick us up at times when we most need it. It’s above all a love song and the arrangement mixes genres and musical timelines to create a classic sound for today.”
The production is balanced and textured, allowing this thoughtful backdrop to surround a wonderful story. “Mary / sing for me / Mary / Mary / thank you for fixing me” is the hook of the chorus and the singing of ‘Mary’ has an earworm of a melody, cleverly stretching the word to have more syllables and fit nicely in the song.
